Dissertation Notes

Fine Art-Painting BA Hons 2015 Dissertation Title: Ontology and the poetic theme of natural presence

By Glen Paul Mendes

THIS IS A COMPARISON PAPER THAT LOOKS AT THE NATURE OF BEING AS AN ABSTRACT CONCEPT.

This dissertation was based upon a pre exhibition visit to see Metamorphosis at the national gallery in June 2012 prior to my first year at art school.

Titians painterly fluidity approach had a powerful freestyle and that inspired my current contemporary painting style art practice.)

Sub Title: Beingness as an aesthetic appreciation of nature.

‘Ontology is the theory of being it classifies our existential existence and allows us to classify our self as a part of nature rather than being apart from it“.

And allows to take form an explanation of entities

I am bringing forward elements from my BA dissertation Ontology and poetic naturalness of being and by two papers of my Illustration MFA. Artists who Hunt  and Channelling energy symbols, I theorize that I can produce a new Language of art,

The main aim of the dissertation was to look at the nature of being as an abstract concept.

I have observed many male artists tent to sit and ponder upon how to build an existing artwork rather than being inside the work they find themselves its observer.

Thus I compared in part towards Jean Paul Sartre Being and nothingness with Baudelaires The beauty and horror of the modern city… According to the art historian Rosemary Lloyd, Baudelaire believed that Romanticism was the "expression of beauty, springing from a sharp awareness of what the modern world has to offer that makes its forms of beauty unique".21 Jul 2020

To walk in the cityscape is to be both observer and participant its aesthetic can both calm and excite its romantic and corrupt its hedonism captivates and entices us into bedlam and our souls are caught up in its rare delights.

The question of the Dissertation concerns “can beingness become enlightenment”

My dialogue with nature is in creating a sacred space by a simple act of being in that space.” existence precedes essence” Sarte’

The plan of my research is  begin looking at established general art method mechanics and work selectively upon each traditional approach in an unconventional way I am looking to encouradge an existing dialogue within the natural and urban  landscapes by an asimple act og being and observing
